COLLABORATIVE UN/MAKING
Collaborative Un/Making is a video work presented in the online exhibition ‘Ideas intersecting: Innovation and Design’, part of the 2019 Sydney Design Festival Program. The narrated video work explores experimental design processes working with mushroom mycelium and textile waste. Fungi is able to break down persistent chemicals such as textile dyes and sizing agents, while at the same time unmake cellulose-rich textile fibres. In the process it remakes a soft foam-like material producing a fungi/textile composite. This work documents the process of introducing different materials to fungi through working with liquid cultures as the mycelium develops a resilience and navigates how to flourish in the time of the Anthropocene.
