NOT SET

A two person show by Alia Parker and Skye Wagner at Wellington St Projects, Chippendale Sydney in July/August 2018. The two practitioners established a dialogue as they challenged the idea of bodies as a bound and singular subject through the use of photographic and textile forms respectively. The title of the exhibition, Not Set refers to relational assemblages that the practitioners created with an emphasis on forms that are open, unstable, ready to change, grow or possibly collapse. Parker’s work explored the collaborative efforts of human and non-human agents in generating experimental garments that look to remake the body through an animated materiality. Working with mushroom mycelium and cotton cloth, the forms explore movement and notions of infinite becomings thereby annulling the possibility of strictly fixed and identifiable states of being. The works collectively glean ubiquitous materials and generic tropes in playful ways to disturb the social and cultural assumptions of function and value.
